As you probably know by now, I have been designing homes for years, but this 1876 bungalow is one I will never forget. For one, it was the first houses my crew and I completed with a camera crew following me around – ha! That was something I definitely had to get used to. I can’t imagine a more perfect house to kick off our first episodes of Bargain Mansions. This house had amazing character, charm, and detail, but it was destroyed! I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. It is also located in a hip, up-and-coming area in Kansas City just south of downtown, so it was a perfect fit. In order to fully grasp how far this house has come, I’ll take you through a few before shots.
It took us around 3 months of around the clock work days, but the end result is everything we could have hoped for. We completely redesigned the floor plan, knocked down numerous walls to open up the first floor, stripped all of the extremely dated wall-paper, applied fresh coats of paint, refinished all of the floors and woodwork, and updated all finishes and appliances. We transformed this abandoned house into a total dream home. A few photos that capture our journey along the way..
Installing new kitchen cabinets and restoring the historic doorways!
Give me allll the arched hallways, brick fire places, and diamond window panes.
Fun fact: If I’m not wearing boots, I’m wearing slippers.
When baby girl visits her mama on set.. I can never go too long without seeing their sweet faces.
Unfortunately, I didn’t take a ton of photos of this project, but I do have a few finished photos of the kitchen. This kitchen embraces everything I love about our laid back luxe style. The crisp, neutral palette paired with a pop of stainless steel and wood accents created a cozy, yet modern feel.
These photos don’t show a ton, but here are a few shots of the other rooms in the home!
Comment below if you were able to catch the first 2 pilot episodes of Bargain Mansions (referred to as Little Money Mansions for the pilot episodes) and let me know what you thought! Next week, I will walk you through another one of our beautiful client homes – the Rosehill House! Have a great weekend, everyone!
(Don’t forget to set your DVRs for November 15th, 9 PM CST for the premiere of Bargain Mansions on DIY NETWORK!)
